Dawson Gool grew up under extremely normal circumstances. His parents met at the dental office they both worked at, settled down, and had 4 kids that played in the woods when they weren't biking around with their neighbours. Nothing pushed Dawson towards music except his own unwavering curiosity, and free reign of his aunt's iTunes library filled with classic rock and bootlegs. After years of obsessing over Beatles songs, and moving to Boston to give Berklee College of Music a try—only to drop out—he decided to make Vancouver, Canada home. There, he has flourished, combining his appreciation for Canadian stars, like Shania Twain and Neil Young, with his love of experimental artists like Arthur Russel and Grouper.

On Dawson's second EP, Bark Mulch—set to be released later this year—he combines traditional sonic elements like pedal steel and banjo with modern storytelling and production. The result is a saturated but driven indie-folk blanket that is sure to warm any fan of Adrianne Lenker or Hovvdy. Mostly recorded in collaborator Mark Falk's bedroom, the songs emit a comfortable glow that is sure to put the listener in a nostalgic haze.
